Navigating the PDF
These tools allow you to move from page to page or from the beginning of the document to the end.
- The first button from the left jumps you to the first page of the document.
- The second button takes you to the previous page in the document.
- The third button takes you to the next page in the document.
- The fourth button jumps you to the last page of the document.
- To jump to a specific page, click in the number box, type the page number and press enter.
Zooming In / Out
This tool allows you to zoom in and zoom out of the document you are viewing.
- Click on the arrow to activate the pop-up menu and select a preset magnification.
- Use the minus and plus signs to zoom in or out.
- Click in the number box to type a specific percent.
Changing Your Window View
These tools allow you to quickly change how the document is viewed in Acrobat Reader.
- The first button reduces or magnifies the document to its actual print size. You probably will not be able to see the entire document if you use a small monitor.
- The middle button reduces or magnifies the document to fit its width within the window. The actual magnification depends on the size of this window or the size of your monitor.
- The third button reduces or magnifies the document to fit in its entirety within the window. The actual magnification depends on the size of this window or the size of your monitor.
Finding Text
This tool allows you to search for words and phrases, much like the find option in word processing programs.
- Click in the Find box, type your word or phrase and press enter. The keyboard shortcut is COMMAND + F (Macintosh) or CTRL + F (Windows). The first occurrence of the word or phrase will be highlighted in the document.
- To find the previous occurrence, press the left arrow key to the right of the Find search box. The keyboard shortcut is SHIFT + COMMAND + G (Macintosh) or SHIFT + CTRL + G (Windows).
- To find the next occurrence, press the right arrow key to the right of the Find search box. The keyboard shortcut is COMMAND + G (Macintosh) or CTRL + G (Windows).
Selecting & Copying Text
This tool allows you to select and copy text from a PDF.
- Click on the left button to activate the tool.
- Select and copy the text as you would in a word processing program. This text can then be pasted into other (non-PDF) documents.
- Click the right button with the hand symbol to turn off the text select tool.
Rotate the Page View
This tool allows you to rotate the page view 90 degrees.
- To rotate the page view counterclockwise, click on the left button.
- To rotate the page view clockwise, click on the right button.
Printing: Fit to Printable Area
Acrobat Reader allows you to reduce the size of the printed document so that it fits a standard 8½ by 11 sheet of paper.
- Select Print from the menu or COMMAND + P (Macintosh) or CTRL + P (Windows).
- Under Page Scaling, select Fit to Printable Area.
